Driving Home

Driving Home consists of woodcuts and etchings based on photos I took while driving weekly to teach a printmaking course in Melfort, SK (about an hour and a half drive each way). Driving home at night in the Saskatchewan winter, there were often few other cars on the road and I try to represent this sense of aloneness and isolation through these pieces. Whereas The Past Four Months incorporated text and presented the original images unaltered, in Driving Home I rely on the constructed images to represent this experience: the blurred landscapes at the sides of my view; the fear of hitting an animal in the darkness; and the challenge, late at night, of trying to stay awake.
